Finally, end with a "closing statement"that is, the conclusion of your essayarguing as strongly as possible in favor of your client's case, namely, your theme. Likewise, there are several things your paper is not.

Consider, though, how we might draw the reader in even more: Imagine youre in a tattoo parlor, and youre about to get a tattoo for the first time. You look over and see the tattoo artist coming at you with a piece of glass. Your story should be a small episode, not a full blown story with characters and plot and setting. Read some of the anecdotes in the Reader's Digest special sections such as "Life in These United States" to learn how to tell small but potent stories. Do not forget, though, that your introductory paragraph should also include a thesis statement to let your reader know what your topic is and what you are going to say about that topic. But you can see from these examples that they preface statements that are so broad they will either lead into an incorrect or bland statement or will disconnect the reader from the real point that you want to make. This, too, makes your argument easier to follow. Finally, it's not a love letter. Lush sentiment and starry-eyed praise don't work well here. They make it look like your emotions are in control, not your intellect, and that will do you little good in this enterprise where facts, not dreams, rule.
